03 How to choose

Four questions before you choose

Which signal do I need to handle?

Current or voltage, temperature, frequency, mains current and voltage, load cell: the input type immediately narrows the choice.

How do I power the module?

24 V low voltage, 85..265 V high voltage, 115/230 Vac mains or directly from the 4-20 mA loop, with no dedicated supply.

How much isolation do I need?

1.5 kVac separates grounds and noise in most panels; 3..4.5 kVac protect against surges and high potentials.

How do I configure it?

DIP switches for commissioning without a PC, Easy Setup software or app for custom scales and advanced functions.

Using a 2-wire transmitter? Choose a model that powers the transducer (selector criterion 4): you avoid a separate power supply in the panel.

05 FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a converter, an isolator and a galvanic separator?

A converter turns one signal into another, for example a thermocouple into 4-20 mA. An isolator, or galvanic separator, keeps the same signal type but breaks the electrical connection between input, output and supply, eliminating ground loops and noise. Many SENECA models perform both functions.

What does “loop-powered” mean?

The module draws the energy it needs directly from the 4-20 mA current loop, with no dedicated supply. It is the simplest solution when 24 V is not available in the panel or when you want to reduce wiring.

What does 3-way isolation mean?

Input, output and power supply are galvanically isolated from each other. A fault or disturbance on one of the three circuits does not spread to the other two.

Can I configure the converters without a PC?

Yes. Most models are configured with the DIP switches on the side of the module. For custom scales, filters and advanced functions, use the free Easy Setup software or, for compatible models, the Easy Setup smartphone app.

Does the selector return the complete order code?

The selector shows the model and, for the S Series, the available power supply variants. The final order code, accessories and availability are given on each product page.

What does “while stocks last” mean?

The product is still available but will no longer be manufactured. For new projects choose an active model: the selector lists them first and you can exclude the others with one click.

I can’t find the right model: what can I do?

Write to commerciale@seneca.it stating the input signal, required output, available supply and quantity: we will propose the most suitable solution, including from other SENECA lines such as I/O modules and temperature transmitters.

Data taken from SENECA product pages and catalogues, updated October 2026. In case of discrepancies, the data sheet and manual of each product prevail.
